What are the different types of sulphur fertilizers available for farmers

Sulphur is one of the most important elements for farmers as it acts like a blessing for the plants. Plants grow and flourish naturally if an abundant amount of sulphur WDG is present in the soil. There are few regions in India where the sulphur is present in abundance in the soil and farmers do not have to worry about the quantity of sulphur but there are still many regions where the soil lack appropriate sulphur quantity and impacts the growth of crops which is a huge financial setback for the farmers. In such regions, farmers use fertilizers rich in sulphur for their crops so that a required dose of sulphur could be given to crops as compensation. In this article, we will be discussing different types of sulphur fertilizers available for the farmers to be used for their crops

Types of Sulphur Fertilizer Types

Sulphur suppliers in India manufacture and supply a variety of sulphur enriched fertilizers which are very beneficial for the crops and farmers use them in bulk in their fields. There are more than 20 commercially available sulphur fertilizers for the farmers and it totally depends on the type of crops and the type of soil which one they want to use. There are basically 4 categories of sulphate fertilizers available which are fertilizers containing sulphate, fertilizers containing elemental sulphur, fertilizers containing a combination of sulphate and elemental sulphur, and liquid sulphur fertilizers. In these 4 major categories, there are various other sub-categories available and we will discuss them in brief

  1. Fertilizers containing sulphate

Sulphate-containing fertilisers account for the majority of the Sulphur applied to soils. These compounds have the benefit of giving Sulphur mainly as a component of multi-nutrient fertilisers in an instantly accessible form, SO4-2, for plant uptake. Ammonium sulphate (AS), single superphosphate (SSP), potassium sulphate, and potassium and magnesium sulphate are the most common and widely used sources.

Other categories of sulphur rich fertilizers that come under fertilizers rich sulphate are Ammonium Sulphate, Single Superphosphate, Ammonium phosphate sulphate, Potassium Magnesium sulphate, Potassium sulphate, Magnesium sulphate, Sulphates of micronutrients and Gypsum

  1. Fertilizers containing elemental sulphur

Fertilizers containing elemental sulphur are one of the most widely used sulphur fertilizers in India because they are considered to be the most concentrated sulphur carrier as compared to other fertilizers available in the market. In modern day agriculture and farming, fertilizers containing elemental sulphur are either used directly or used as additives to N-P-K fertilizers.

Some of the most common fertilizers that contain elemental sulphur are Elemental Sulphur, Sulphur Bentonite, Elemental S Fortified N/P fertilizers and S coated fertilizers.

  1. Fertilizers containing a combination of sulphate and elemental sulphur

As the name suggests, these fertilizers are a combination of elemental sulphur and sulphate and used where the soil is deficient in both these compounds

  1. Liquid sulphur fertilizers

These liquid Fertilizers, as the name suggests are available in the liquid form and can be sprinkled in the soil for better results. The solution of Ammonium Thiosulphate is one of the most common and popular forms of liquid sulphur fertilizers used by the farmers and the main reason for this is its excellent solubility. Ammonium Thiosulphate started gaining popularity in North America and Europe in the beginning and due to the excellent results, it is widely used all across the world by the farmers these days.

Another reason why Ammonium Thiosulphate is one of the best liquid sulphur fertilizers is because of its versatility and high sulphur concentration in fluid formulations. PotassiumThiosulphate and Calcium Thiosulphate are other forms of liquid fertilizers.
