This compass works under a simple physics law and has changed how mariners navigate. Gyroscopes should be maintained properly so that they can give accurate and precise results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;To detect the true north, gyrocompass devices are installed on ships. True north and magnetic north are not the same. Based on physical laws of gravity and earth\u2019s rotation, these work. They are mainly installed on all ships to guide them in the proper channel. That\u2019s why it has become an essential instrument. Gyroscope which is placed inside a gyrocompass is made to flow freely over three mutually perpendicular axes. The compass is controlled in this way so that it can enable the axis of spin to settle parallel with the true meridian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0The gyrocompass doesn\u2019t get affected by the external magnetic field. When a ship changes its course, an independently driven mechanism called \u2018Phantom\u2019 moves along while the rotor system continues to follow the northward direction. This difference in direction sends a signal to the driving motor. This helps the phantom step in the rotor system. When they are allied, electrical impulses are sent by the phantom to the repeater compasses for each degree it traverses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ships use gyro compass to detect the true north, steer, find the position and record the navigational course. That\u2019s why gyrocompass plays a pivotal role in <strong>ship automation monitoring systems<\/strong>. The speed, latitude, and ship\u2019s course may cause errors in the gyrocompass. On a northern navigational course, the compass will be slightly deflected to the west of the meridian and on a southern course, it is ricocheted to east. Modern ships are crammed with an advanced GPS system installed which feeds data to the gyrocompass for correcting the error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gyrocompass maintenance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7  To ensure accuracy, check the repeater with the master compass. Whenever the power failure happens, it is recommended to reset the repeater.<br>\u00b7  With azimuth, check the compass error.<br>\u00b7  Speed and latitude should be reset as per the requirement.<br>\u00b7  Check the compass thoroughly to detect any damage.<br>\u00b7  Check the alarm buzzer monthly.<br>\u00b7  Clean the equipment and follow the instructions on the
